Free Will…

As a child, I often shared a bedroom with my younger sister, Kris, who is the lower middle child of the family. I remember having talks as we laid in our twin beds at night before falling asleep. Being born into a Roman Catholic family, going to a Parochial grade school, there were many topics that I found confusing. The biggest one for me was the subject of Free Will. I could not seem to wrap my brain around the concept of God knowing everything we would do, yet,  still having this thing called Free Will. If He knew everything, then ultimately, would He not know that we could make a decision, and then still be able to change our mind? Where did Free Will come in to play? Could we trick God? I remained confused about the topic for many years.

Fast forward to adulthood, I found myself in a study group for The Course In Miracles. In that class, our facilitator, Olivia, would tell us that we chose the family we were born in to, so that we might learn the lessons we needed to learn in this lifetime. I chose Catholicism because I needed to be presented with the guilt and shame that permeated that faith, so that I could reject it and find my own interpretation of God. And that I did.

I explored the concept of no one getting to heaven until we all got there. We were encouraged to celebrate and honor everyone’s belief as right for them. After all, isn’t it more important that we have a belief in a God of our understanding rather than insist that we all have the same belief? I hold that concept today. If I am to believe that God is All Knowing, All Loving, a forgiving & compassionate God; then it best that I try to follow the Ten Commandments and let go of the man made rules. If and when we can get those Ten right, we will have no need to walk this physical plane, and if we are still here, we may have found Heaven on Earth.

There has been more killing “in the name of God” than for any other reason. If “thou shall not kill” is one of the Ten, how can we possibly justify all the murder committed on this Earth? I have read the Ten Commandments many times. Never have I seen a ‘parenthesis’ after any of them. There are NO exceptions. No justifications.

Judgement was another issue for me. I believe that learning to not pass judgement is one of the biggest lessons we learn here on Earth. The Catholic church tells us that we will come before God when we pass on and He will judge our life., and then we will either go to Heaven or go to Hell. But, what happened to a God that is All Forgiving? I now recognize that we are our own judge and jury, so to speak! I know that I am my own worst critic, no one else needs to put in their two cents!   If in this physical world, we would all raise our vibration to that of Love instead of Ego, if we would be more supportive, kind and loving towards our fellowman rather than pass judgement, we all might Wake Up quicker & find the true Peace that we all say we want!

In the beginning…

My life started out badly. I certainly have no cognitive memory of infancy, but was told that I cried for the first six months. Being the upper middle child in a family of 6 children, my mother already had her hands full with my older sister and brother only 11 months apart and then my arrival not quite 2 years later. I was not breastfed, which I believe contributed to the problem. And because of my sensitivity to energies, I felt my mother’s frustration with magnified intensity. My parents eventually found out that I had severe ear infections and had both eardrums lanced. I do not know if they administered antibiotics to my wee body, but, I have had challenges from yeast, fungi and viruses for most of my life.

My digestive system was very fragile until my 20’s. I stopped eating hamburger in 1972 (the cost had gone up and I could not afford to purchase it) With the elimination of red meat, my bowels started to work a bit better, so much so that I decided to learn about our digestive system, it’s requirements, etc. Just the length alone should tell us NOT to eat animals. Our system is designed to function with high amounts of fiber and there is absolutely NONE in animal products (flesh or fluids). So, why oh why do they tell us to eat so much of the stuff! Certainly not for our health! It is difficult for us to digest and assimilate animal protein and it is about as far away as you can get from the ultimate source of all life, the Sun.

My preferences today are fruits, vegetables, nuts and seeds. I do my best to purchase nothing from the inside aisles at the grocery. Man-made, processed foods are empty calories that do nothing to rebuild our bodies on a cellular level. And whether you realize it or not, eating is not just something we do for pleasure!, or a social event! It is our fuel. I hear people say all the time that they can’t afford organic food, or fresh food takes too long to prepare. Would you put garbage in that piece of tin you drive around in and expect it to get you from point A to point B? NO. You know that you have to put fuel in your car, change the oil & keep the radiator full of water so you can get in, crank the engine and go. So, why on earth do humans believe that they can eat junk food, drink sugared acidic soft drinks nor have regular bathroom habits? I’m talking 2 to 3 bowel movements daily. If what the food guide promotes is so good for us, why is there so much dis-ease in this country?

It seems to me, people are turning into the docile beings that they have been consuming in massive amounts, and actually, I believe they are even starting to resemble them. Huge bellies on the men, they seem more abundant than pregnant woman today! Skinny arms and legs, no butt. The United States citizens have some of the worst health in the developed countries. The sad reality is the obese folks walking (or riding in their carts) around are actually malnourished from too many empty calories. Sometimes I want to scream, “Would you all just wake up and think about what you are doing to yourselves!”
